Study for an upcoming painting. Sited in Paris, my favorite place to paint.

Saturday, November 22, 2014

After a hiatus I have finally done another painting. A recent setback sort of derailed me for awhile. Had all my art gear stolen from right beside me in Barcelona. Among the losses was my favorite Craig Young palette. Took a fair amount of money and a long tome to get. I may never recover completely.

Plein Air at the Capitol Building Yesterday. Sort of a progress set from real subject to an almost finished product. All thats left to do are some highlights and details. It was a fairly hot day with temps near 90F but I painted in the shade of a very large oak tree. Just after noon so the shadows were not exactly where I wanted them. I'll go back later in the day next time. This is the old historic Capitol building. The newer statehouse may be on my painting agenda as well, at a later date.

Some photos from my just finished San Francisco workshop with Alvaro Castagnet. Some photos were from afterward when I went to Napa Ca. and painted on my own until my easel broke. We painted around Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. When we had no hair dryer onsite to dry the first wash, a classmate produced a blowtorch which AC used. He had to be careful not to set the paper afire.
